Dr. Rajendra Ravi writes about the recent NGT judgment that bans all diesel vehicles older than 10 years from plying on the roads of the National Capital Region (NCR) taking cognizance of the terrible air quality in the nation’s capital.
He comments on the need to not only improve public transport but also the pedestrian/cycling infrastructure as these are important for the last-mile connectivity to the public transport modes, be it bus, BRT or Metro.
He also laments the decision of the new AAP government in Delhi to “reconsider the BRT” as being anti-democratic and lauds efforts of the “make way for buses” campaign. [link to https://www.facebook.com/buskorastado and http://www.youthkiawaaz.com/2015/04/brt-corridor-delhi/]
Raviji also talks about the need to walk the talk, and while welcoming the comments of Prime Minister Modi who wondered if we couldn’t all ride a bicycle one day of the week, cites examples of the Dutch Prime Minister who actually rides a bicycle to work!
